1. Introduction
1.1 People In Strata Pty Ltd (“People In Strata”) aims to promote and uphold the highest ethical standards in the industry. People In Strata’s Code of Conduct has been created to reflect the values of diversity, acceptance and respect for all persons. People In Strata values fostering an industry culture that is compassionate, supportive and welcoming to all.
2. Purpose
2.1 This Code of Conduct has been created to communicate the conduct expected of people who attend People In Strata affiliated events to ensure events remain a safe and enjoyable environment for all.
3. Scope
3.1 This Code of Conduct applies to People In Strata event attendees, speakers, sponsors, partners, facilities staff, and organizing committee members.
4. Acceptable Behavior
4.1 As People In Strata events are professional, industry-based events we expect all people to act in a manner that is professional courteous and respectful to others. We expect you to:
- Respect the venue, staff, facilities and equipment;
- Speak respectfully to other attendees;
- Respect other people’s boundaries and personal space.
5. Unacceptable Behavior
5.1 People In Strata considers unacceptable behavior to be something that would cause offence to another or make them feel threatened or harassed. People In Strata will not tolerate the following behavior within the industry:
- Foul, derogatory, inflammatory or discriminatory language, comments or conduct;
- Antisocial behavior such as intimidation, aggression or rudeness either through words or body language;
- Heckling of speakers;
- Showing sexual or explicit images to others;
- Inappropriate touching;
- Sexual comments or advances that are unwanted;
- Bullying or discriminatory behavior.
5.2 For the avoidance of any doubt, unacceptable behavior may result in appropriate action being taken by the orgnaising committee as detailed herein or within any other People In Strata internal policy, procedure, code or other document.
6. How to Report Unacceptable Behavior
6.1 If you have witnessed or experienced unacceptable behavior, our first recommendation would be to communicate your grievance to the offending person in a firm but polite way.
6.2 If the behavior continues, or if you do not feel comfortable raising it with the person, please promptly find one of the People In Strata organizing committee members and raise your concern. You may do so in person, over the phone or via email. You may raise the complaint at any time.
6.3 The People In Strata organizing committee member (“Member”) will provide support and ascertain the nature of the complaint and the wishes of the complainant.
6.4 The Member may decide to alert other Members to the issue, but should consider the wishes of the person complaining before doing so.
6.5 The Member, in their sole discretion, may speak to the person complained of and ask them to stop the behaviour.
6.6 The Member, in their sole discretion, may ask the person complained of to leave the event.
6.7 The Member may recommend to the other Members that the person complained of be banned from attending events either for a certain time, or altogether. Should the majority of Members agree, the disciplinary action will be enforced to the best of People In Strata’s ability.
6.8 For the avoidance of any doubt, a person who has been complained of is not entitled to natural justice in this process.
